Pacific Sausages Co., Inc. is a family owned and operated business that has been manufacturing sausages in Hawaii since 1970. Founded by, Dr. Bertalan Holusa, who was born in Budapest, Hungary and travelled extensively before putting his roots here in Hawaii where he found an opportunity to own a business. In his earlier years, Dr. Holusa began his career working for King Haile Selassie as veterinary doctor until World War II broke out and he was put in concentration camps with his family for several years.
Eventually he immigrated to South America in the 1950’s and was introduced to meat manufacturing by a German friend. He learned the trade and opened his sausage factory with his son, Italo and wife, Julie in northern Brazil in 1962. He immigrated to the United States in 1967 to be close to his daughter, who was living in Hawaii. After trying several unsuccessful businesses, the timing was just right when Continental Sausages was put up for sale. The name was later changed to Pacific Sausages Co., Inc. and is still family owned and operated today.
